LOW POWER, LOW COST
A thin client is a client computer that depends primarily on the central server for all of its processing activities.
Instead of buying brand new systems and paying for the recycling of your old systems, you can use your basic
old work stations as thin clients. These Thin Clients use less power, and all data, applications and services are
stored on the server, meaning all your data is backed up, storage is centralised, and security is at a premium.
... lowers the energy consumption of your IT infrastructure, reducing
your carbon footprint.
By having a lower powered thin client, this lowers the cost of purchasing and operating one of these clients. The
server holds all of the applications, services and data. With the servers utilised fully and keeping the thin clients
lightly loaded, your IT systems will be managed more easily and there are other advantages including networked
computing, easier security and centralised storage and backup for your data.
Advantages of Thin Clients...
- Lower IT administration costs
The thin clients are run almost entirely from the server. As thin clients often do not have any permanent storage this lowers the risk of failure and are therefore long term solutions for a company.
- Data Security
As no data is stored locally on these machines, if the thin client were to get stolen or damaged, there would be no risk of data theft. All data resides on the server and this is very easy to backup.
- Lower Hardware Costs
As the thin client does not have a powerful processer, a disk or any application memory they are much cheaper than other options. Due to the fact that they are very basic machines, this limits the risk of failure and so the time between purchasing the thin client and replacing the thin client would be years.
- Environmental Benefits
Traditionally a computer runs at 300W, but a thin client runs at only 10-36W at a time. Coupled with the fact that the server is being run more efficiently this lowers the energy consumption of your IT infrastructure, reducing your carbon footprint.
Other Options for your Business
We are looking at recycling old workstations which may be no good at running a company’s current application
range. As the thin clients are basic old workstations, they can usually be converted into thin clients, saving you
from having to purchase new systems and pay for the disposal of the old system.
Should you need to dispose of old equipment we have very efficient and cost efficient methods of disposing of
this equipment for you. We also work with a recycling company that will dispose of your equipment in a way that
is ‘green’ and kind to the environment.
